Potography Community Updates

April 2022 marks the beginning of Potography’s third year of photo contests and we have some truly exciting developments in the works.

We wanted to share this quick update to let everyone know what we’ve got in store for 2022 and beyond.

Website Updates – HUGE changes coming!

To kick off the new year, in January we migrated our website to a new server to improve our site performance. This helps us ensure we can continue operating the contest through 2022 and gives us more room to grow our web-based services beyond the photo contest.

Speaking of web-based services, we think it’s time to do something about Facebook and Instagram’s unfair discrimination against cannabis-friendly accounts. That’s why, for our next big project, we’ll be launching a whole host of new features to create a more member-focused community and improve the potography.com user experience.

Our ultimate goal is for Potography.com to serve as a sort of “safe hub” for cannabis photographers — a place where you know you won’t be banned for your cannabis content and where you can build relationships with other cannabis photographers seamlessly.

We can’t wait to share more about our plans for our new member-focused online community but, for now, we’d love to hear what features you’d like to see added to the site this year.

For example, would you like to see added features like member profile pages, discussion threads, and direct private messaging?

You can let us know directly by sending an email to hello@potography.com or by sending us a message on Instagram.

As our OG members surely know by now, our website is a living and breathing project and we’re always adding new features and content. Be sure to explore all the different pages like the Contest Portal and feel free to request a feature or report any problems you encounter. This site is for you!

Contest Updates

Starting with our March Photo Contest, our contest prizes have changed.

As always, contest winners will continue to receive free hemp prints featuring their winning image. That said, while all winners will still receive at least one hemp print, we’ll no longer be including extra hemp prints for our first and second place winners.

This means each winner will receive a total of one hemp print along with the usual random assortment of Potography swag.

First place winners will receive an 8.5″ x 11″ print (or similar size), second place winners will get a 5″ x 7″ (or similar) print, and third place winners will receive a 4″ x 6″ (or similar) print as usual.

First place winners can also request two 5″ x 7″ prints or three 4″ x 6″ prints instead of one 8.5″ x 11″ print.

In lieu of the extra prints, we’ll be giving each winner an exclusive discount code that will remain valid for one month after winning. First place winners will receive a 50% off coupon, second place will receive a 25% off coupon, and third place will receive a 10% off coupon. Please review the updated Contest Rules for more details.

We hope to grow enough in 2022 that we can add even more dope prizes in 2023. In the meantime, though, hemp prints are always available to purchase via our online store. Each and every purchase from our online store supports our monthly photo contest and other efforts to build the best online community for cannabis artists.

Social Updates

While we couldn’t be more excited about the new website features coming in 2022, we have no plans to slow down on social media. This year we’ll be spending even more time on third-party social platforms in order to grow our community and help cannabis photographers connect with each other.

Last year, we launched our Facebook group for cannabis photographers, and this year we’re creating more exclusive and original content to share with the group. We’ll be posting more actively in our blog and on other social media platforms outside of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and we’re also looking into setting up groups on community-oriented platforms like Discord and Reddit.

Most of the action will take place on Potography.com, but we also want to make sure we offer members ways to connect with artists who prefer certain platforms over others.

Again, the ultimate goal is to build a safe place for our community, not the only place for our community, and we can’t wait to share how the new website features launching this year move us closer to this ultimate goal.

In the meantime, we’d love to hear from our members which social platforms they’re already using and what about those platforms they like most. And please be sure to join the Facebook group and subscribe to our newsletter if you haven’t already so you can be the first to know whenever we launch a new group, page, or website feature.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or by sending us an email at hello@potography.com.

Shop Updates

We’re revamping our online shop in 2022 to focus more on products and services tailored specifically toward cannabis photographers.

Custom hemp photo prints and Potography swag will remain available for purchase, as will our wrapping paper and select stationery products such as our Recycled Thank You Cards. Many greeting cards and other miscellaneous products, however, will be removed.

Along with removing some older non-hemp products, we’ll also be adding hemp products to the shop (such as our Classic Hemp Logo Tees!), and we’re exploring non-hemp products that we think our community of cannabis photographers will love, too.

Finally, we’re testing out all the ways we can leverage our strength in numbers to give our members exclusive access to discounted cannabis photography products and services. This will start with our hemp printing service since that’s done in-house, but we’d like to expand our community perks as far and wide as possible.

Stay tuned!

Community Updates

While everything we’ve mentioned so far is definitely exciting, this year we’re most excited about our plans to grow our community.

We’ve been blown away by the talent shown by our members so far, and we know that it’s just the tip of the iceberg! The more talent we can attract to the community, the more we can help each other learn, develop our skills, and grow as artists, content creators, and entrepreneurs.

In order to attract more cannabis photographers to our community in 2022, we’re launching new growth campaigns targeting cannabis-inspired creators in the US and around the world. We’re committed to helping cannabis photographers connect, and after two years of organic but slow growth, we’re ready to kick our marketing efforts up a notch.

Starting with engaging more frequently and consistently with our community, the first part of our goal is to increase our presence on Instagram and other social media platforms. Unfortunately, Facebook still makes it difficult for cannabis brands to advertise, and we’re brainstorming all the creative ways we can use Facebook to grow our membership without risking having our page shut down.

On top of all our new initiatives in the digital world, we’re also looking forward to hosting our first-ever in-person meetups and networking events in 2022! Our goal is to organize the first in-person event later in the year, so be sure to follow us on Instagram and sign up for our newsletter to stay updated as our plans materialize.

We’d love to hear what events our community members plan on hitting this year, so please let us know your plans in the comments below!

Other McBlaze Media News

In other news, we’re incredibly excited to announce that we’re bringing our sister company, Custom Hemp Solutions, out of “stealth mode” this month. Custom Hemp Solutions helps brands and creative professionals achieve their sustainability goals with custom-branded hemp merchandise and marketing materials.

Custom Hemp expands the hemp printing capabilities originally offered by Potography to include a wide range of hemp-based print, packaging, and apparel products that are all available with custom branding.

Custom Hemp offers the largest selection of hemp paper on the market and can help you source and develop your very own custom hemp promotional merchandise including t-shirts, hoodies, and more.

If you’ve always wanted your cannabis photography, business cards, flyers, or brochures to be printed on hemp-based paper, contact Custom Hemp Solutions today and tell them Potography sent you. We’re still working out the details, but the plan is to offer our original Potography members (anyone registered before the date this article was published) exclusive discounts with Custom Hemp Solutions.

Please visit customhemp.co or contact us for more information.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone in the community for your continued support and participation. We’re beyond excited about what’s in store for the Potography community this year.

We love you all and can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish together in 2022 and beyond.

See you in the next photo contest!
