Hemp Clothing Is Sustainable
When it comes to choosing hemp or cotton for sustainable clothing, hemp is the clear winner for several reasons.
Not only does hemp produce more fiber per acre, but hemp also uses less water and fewer pollutants to produce the same amount of clothing as cotton.
That means, when we grow hemp instead of cotton for clothing, we’re reducing the need to cut down forests for agriculture and we’re freeing up existing farmland for other valuable resources like food.
Hemp Clothing Is Functional
We’re also getting a higher-quality product in return since hemp is stronger than cotton and products made from hemp tend to last longer.
To top off this long list of amazing benefits, hemp clothing keeps you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer compared to cotton.
So, even if you pay a few bucks extra for your hemp t-shirt, you’ll probably get a few years of extra use out of it, and you’ll enjoy more benefits each time you wear it.
At the end of the day, hemp clothing is simply stronger, softer, longer-lasting, and more sustainable than cotton
The one downside?
Eighty years of prohibition has left the hemp industry at a major disadvantage to competitors, and we still lack the infrastructure needed to deliver hemp fabric at the same or lower rates as cotton.
All that said, with your support, we can reduce and eventually completely eliminate the government-imposed barriers this industry has been struggling to overcome for decades.
In the meantime, we think paying a few bucks more for hemp products that are higher quality and more sustainable than traditional alternatives is a fair trade.
